A new concept
destination Colchester has been conceived, in the wake of the failed Colchester BID proposal, by talking to town centre businesses and other stakeholders, as well as our customers. We are convinced that, if Colchester is to achieve its potential, then we must formulate a new style of organisation: one that can work constructively with the local authority, yet which has the trust and confidence of businesses.
Defining principles that distinguish destination Colchester include:
- Value: we understand the importance of imagination and determination in successful but economical projects
- Inclusivity: no business or individual shall be excluded and no comment or criticism shall go unheeded
- Sustainability: the future must be sustainable and we will take a lead on environmental and ethical issues
- Diversity: is what makes traditional town centres different and special, so this must be maintained and enhanced
- Support: for independent groups with talent and expertise, helping them to do what they do best and to achieve their potential
- Regeneration: supporting businesses through the St Botolph's area redevelopment, and working for a successful result
- Respect: we will be honest and fair, and will not make promises that we cannot keep
